GET INVOLVED
VOLUNTEER
Are you willing to teach adult learners how to read? Tutors meet with their lerarners at any one of the 17 Brevard Public Libraries.
No, you do not have to be a teacher, just believe in the importance of goals and have a personal appreciation of the importance of literacy. LAB has a need for tutors from Mims to Palm Bay! LAB will provide the training and the materials you will need.
TUTORS
Literacy for Adults in Brevard(LAB) is entirely operated by volunteers.
Our work depends heavily on data processing, social media talents, writing, computer knowledge, attending local events representing LAB, fundraising, office skills, getting grants, managing materials, distributing materials and whatever else we need to do to make residents of Brevard aware of Literacy for Adults in Brevard.

VOLUNTEER BOARD MEMBERS FOR LITERACY FOR ADULTS IN BREVARD
JOIN US ON THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Established in 1971, Literacy for Adults in Brevard (LAB) is a 501 (c) (3), all volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to teaching literacy skills to the adult residents of Brevard County so that they may reach their full potential in their families, workplace, and community.
We are seeking committed, roll up your sleeves and get to work individuals to join us as a member of the LAB Board of Directors. Are you the person your family depends on to plan your next get together? Are you the person your friends expect to pick the next local adventure? Are you comfortable starting conversations with people you just met? We need help developing our public relations and social media presence.
The Board is to govern and oversee the direction of the organization. Every Board member serves as an active advocate and ambassador for our organization within the Brevard County community.
This is your opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the 16% of residents in Brevard County who cannot read a simple sentence.
Board members serve a two-year term, attend 6 - 8 Board meetings a year, most meetings are virtual, and serve on a committee to further the goals of LAB. Approximate time commitment is 6 - 12 hours a month.
ABOUT LAB
When the original organization, Brevard Adult Literacy Volunteers, was founded in Titusville, the focus was on teaching reading to the migrants who worked in the fields. The program has had many distinct outreach efforts over the past 50 years but has remained true to the basic tenet: one –on –one tutoring in the public libraries across the county. After they are assessed, adult learners meet with their tutor once a week for a minimum of 60 –90 minutes, and go home with activities to work on until their next lesson. All materials are provided at no cost.
